Have you ever imagined how life would have been if one could not see? Darkness all around. What would be the meaning of the natural beauty or manmade wonder if you could not see it? We might not realise it in our day to day life that how important our eyesight is. Most of us are born blessed with a perfect six by six vision. We have so taken it for granted to have a perfect vision that we often forget to take care of eyes until they are causing any discomfort to us. Do you know that 80% of the global vision impairment is avoidable as stated by The World Health Organization (WHO)? Never ignore even a minor change in your eye sightedness. Vision is one of the greatest treasures to enjoy this life. Our eyes are an ultimate friend in navigating through the surroundings. So, we must take care of them. There are several routines that you can follow to ensure healthy eyesight. Eye exercise is one of them. It is a natural way to keep them healthy without the usage of medication. Regular practise of these exercises can help you to maintain your vision.
We are in the digital age. Most of our activities and tasks are done over electronic devices such as mobile phones, iPad, computers etc. By using these devices for a long time, it is very common to get dry eye syndrome symptoms. These devices put a strain on our eyes if used for a long period. You might face blurred vision or even headaches. As they say, precaution is better than the cure, and eye exercise can be performed as a precaution. Do you know if your eyes are in good condition, you can also donate them posthumously? Posthumous eye donation ensures lighting up of at least 2 lives. Isn’t it amazing? So, let’s jump to the part where we are going to share five eye exercises for better vision.
Here are 5 Eye Exercises for Better Vision –
1.) Focus Change
The focus change exercise can help you deal with the digital eye strain. It challenges your focus. It would be best if you were seated while performing this exercise. Here are the steps to follow:
- Hold one of your finger a few inches away from your eyes.
- Focus on the finger.
- Gradually move the finger away from your face without losing the focus.
- Look away for a moment and gradually bring the focus back to your finger.
- Keeping the focus on the finger, gradually bring it back towards your eye.
- Again look away and focus on something else for some time.
- Repeat this exercise for at least three times.
2.) Figure 8
- Sit on a comfortable chair with your feet flat on the floor.
- Trace an imaginary figure 8 on the floor, which should be around 8 to 10 feet away from you.
- Move your eyes with the flow of number 8.
- Keep repeating for 30 seconds.
- Do the same activity in the opposite direction for 30 seconds.
3.) 20-20-20 Rule
Being in the age where we are so glued up with the devices, eye strain is a common issue. Human eyes are not supposed to be looking at any digital screen for an extended period. The 20-20-20 rule helps in maintaining a healthy routine with your busy life. This exercise can benefit people who have jobs which demand long hours of work on computers or laptops.
Let’s get to the procedure to follow it. So, what you have to do is every 20 minutes, you need to look at something which is 20 feet away from you (preferably not another electronic screen) for 20 seconds. This exercise ensures that your eyes have relaxed in adequate intervals.
4.) Palming
Palming is also an extremely simple exercise to keep your eyes relaxed. You can perform this whenever you feel that your eyes need rest, at any time of the day. You can keep it as a ritual in your coffee or lunch breaks too. Now, let’s get to the process.
- Sit comfortably on your chair, leaning forward onto your work table or any other hard surface. If you do not have a hard surface nearby, then you can place your elbows on your knees.
- Close your eyes.
- Place your hands over eyes in such a position that the centre of your palm covers your eyes, and the fingers rest on the forehead.
- Place the palm in such a way that you are easily able to blink and do not put pressure on your eyes.
- Do this exercise for two to three minutes in one sitting.
- Repeat it for 2 to 3 times a day if you are on your devices all the time.
5.) Slow Blink
We might not realise it, but blinking is healthy for our eyes. When we work upon digital devices, we do not blink much, and the eyes get dried. Blinking lubricates our eyes. If you have itchy and tired eyes, in that case as well, this exercise works as a refresher. Here is the process to perform this exercise.
- Sit comfortably on a chair or the floor.
- Look straight onto the wall or any plain surface in front of you.
- Close your eyes slowly.
- Keep them closed for half a second and then open them again. Go slow with the process.
- Repeat this for 20 to 25 times straight in a row.
- With each blink, your eyes will feel refreshed and more lubricated.
Folks, that’s all about it today. We hope that these 5 eye exercises will help you in keeping your eyes healthy and happy. Also, note that these exercises might not be able to cure any eye diseases as there is no proven science behind them. However, they can be performed as a precaution and for the time to time relaxation and focus required for the eyes. These will help you in strengthening the muscles, keeping your eyes lubricated and refreshed. On this note, we take your leave by wishing you all the positivity and prosperity!
